After a number of years in competitive air rifle shooting followed by long distance running and triathlon it was time for a change. With a somewhat boring car history, circumstances have finally meant that I can afford to partake in a little bit of motorsport.

Mid 2006 Emerson and I saw our first hillclimb at Harewood, and that pretty much decided it for us both, “we need to do this”.

With races at MIRA, Curborough, Harewood and Loton Park, the 8v 205 Gti was doing us proud……………….that was until our second outing at Curborough in October. Only two days after being rolling road tuned at Aldon Automotive, I decided to take a bit too much speed into the first corner and ended up in the bank…………….ooops. If this wasn’t bad enough I was only the 3rd car on the track that day.

When I’m not racing or re-building the car, I spend most of my time looking after my 5 month old Dalmatian, Jasper.

With 9 rounds of the HSA Aldon Automotive Speed Championship planned for 2007 season, my aspirations this year extended to finishing with the car in one piece.

Driver: Emerson Kent

Age: 32

Location: Nuneaton and Dorset

Occupation:3rd Line Engineer

I was named after a racing driver (say no more!!). Since passing my driving test every car I have ever owned I seem to have pushed hard.

The majority of the cars I owned would not have been considered as sporty, most being diesel company cars, but that never seemed to stop me, I always managed to make good use of the free tyres and servicing.
One weekend whilst staying with Chris we went along to Harewood and that was it; we were both instantly hooked. At the time I had a Honda Accord Type-R and would have entered there and then had it been possible.

We knew immediately that this was our next sport; however we would keep this “Cheap” ………mmmm how wrong we were.

We are now in our third season of Motorsport, and having 14 or so races under our belt we are starting to get to grips with the car and how the sprinting and climbing thing works..
